The Les Cheneaux Yacht Club offers Youth Sailing and Teen Sailing programs that are open to the public. Club members, guests, and community members are welcome and encouraged to attend, and no fee is required.
The Les Cheneaux Yacht Club’s Youth Sailing program offers basic sailing instruction to kids of all ages. The young sailors use the Club’s fleet of Optimists and Sunfish to practice and improve their sailing skills. No experience is necessary—just a great attitude!
In 2019, Youth Sailing sessions are scheduled for Saturday mornings (June 29-July 27) at 9:30 am, followed by a hot dog lunch. Parents typically stay with their children and assist as needed. In order for children to participate, parents must sign the 2019 Youth/Teen Sailing Waiver.
2019 Committee Chairs: Paul and Jan Tabor
Teens (ages 12 and up) are invited to learn more about sailing and sailing maneuvers, particularly on the Ensign, and build friendships among others who are interested in sailing. Activities include instruction and hands-on training, sail handling and racing, and hot dogs or treats.
In 2019, sessions are scheduled for July 2, 9, 16, and 30 at 5:00 pm. In order for teens to participate, parents must sign the 2019 Youth/Teen Sailing Waiver. Interested teens should contact Al McInally to be added to the Teen Sailing group text, which will be used to confirm participation and ensure availability of a sufficient number of boats.
